My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Nickel Cat, I am a 5-year-old, neutered male, short-haired ginger. I was found as a stray November 2024 and brought to MaxFund, now I am looking for my fur-ever home!

I`m a gentle and easy-going beautiful orange boy with unusual stripes. I I`m extremely affectionate! I love to be petted on my head, cheeks, chin, back, and butt! I will make biscuits while you pet me. I have an adorable little meow and I purr like a motorboat when petted.

I am sensitive to noise: when entering or leaving my room, please be very quiet and don`t let the door close naturally; instead, ensure it`s a soft close. Slowly open my kennel door, then sit 2 feet away on the floor and let me come to you. If I don`t, you can use the back scratcher to give me light, circular scratches on top of my head right between my ears! I like scratches.

I haven`t met any dogs or kids, so I am not yet sure how I would do in a home with others. If you have kids, you can bring them to meet me! If you have a dog, the shelter staff can test me with a MaxFund dog and see how I do.

I do have FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), which means I need to be your only cat or live with other FIV+ cats in your household. For more information, search `FIV Veterinary Partner`.

I am not medically cleared for adoption quite yet, but you can still come meet me! I`m at Meow Manor, the building right across the parking lot from our main shelter.
The shelter hours are Sunday - Monday, & Wednesday - Saturday (Closed Tuesday) 9:30 - 4:30, Closed 12:00 - 1:00 for lunch.

More about this shelter

The MaxFund is a non-profit organization that was established in May of 1988 to provide medical care for injured pets with no known owners, and to seek out new homes for these animals once they have recovered. The MaxFund is a no-kill dog and cat shelter. MaxFund assists hundreds of people and animals each year by trying to make the correct match between owner and pet. MaxFund adopts our animals to Colorado residents only.

The MaxFund is a TRUE no-kill shelter. There is no pre-sorting of animals into "adoptable" and "non-adoptable" categories, discarding the so-called "unadoptable." The MaxFund takes every animal it has the space for. EVERY animal is kept until its owner is found or it is placed in a new adoptive home.
