Very sweet and loving boy! Despite what must have been horrible pain, suffering, and fear he was a gentle loving soul when I helped lift him out of the car at the vets.
Major Medical Foster required! Poor Bernie was hit by a car and his previous owner did not get him immediate medical attention, so the wounds became infected and necrotic. He has a major head wound that involves an exposed portion of his skull and a skull fracture. Bernie was basically scalped to a degree. The tissue was necrotic and sloughing and has been surgically cleansed and dead tissue removed, BUT it must be cleansed 1-2 times daily and closely monitored for deterioration. He also had to have a tip of one ear removed. He has no fractures other than the skull fracture that will heal with time. He has some wounds to a front leg and paw that will also need daily wound care and monitoring.
Despite all of this the vets and animal hospital staff report that Bernie is the happiest and sweetest boy!
He will remain in the hospital until approximately 11/12/2024 if his wounds continue to improve.
Bernie was also neutered while he was under having his ear and scalp worked on.

At Cleo's Legacy, we are committed to making a positive change in the lives of homeless dogs. Our organization was founded in 2024, after founder, Alex Siska, lost her soul-dog & lifelong companion to old age.
Cleo helped pave the way for rescue work when she was brought home infested with parasites as a baby. Cleo’s brilliant joy, empathy, and love introduced Alex to open her heart for dogs found on the street and at local shelters.
