My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by their previous owner.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Say hello to Jamie! Guinea pigs are small, silly furry potato-like creatures that live on a diet of grass and vegetables. Guinea pigs are herd animals, meaning they usually live in large groups! At home, it is best for a guinea pig to have another guinea pig friend of the same sex. They can share an enclosure that is no less than 47"x24"- but more space is always better. Because they prey animals, most guinea pigs may be nervous about being picked up. But once a guinea pig builds a relationship with their people, they enjoy snuggling in their adopter's laps for pets! TIP: the way to a guinea pigs heart is through their stomach with treats (did someone say cilantro?!)! They can be big talkers and will express how they are feeling with different sounds - be sure to listen, to get an idea of what they are telling you! More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
