Behavior Notes:
Per staff 11/13: A volunteer took Tapioca out during gold level training. She was laying in her bed when approached, but gently rose when the kennel was opened. She walked nervously on leash and had her tail low while we walked out of the shelter. While in the yard, she did not actively solicit attention and stood nervously until we brought Teriyaki (the dog she was found with) out. She then started wagging her tail, loosened her body, and immediately engaged with her. She then was a completely different dog and actively sought out attention from her handlers, allowed all petting, and even sat on the bench between us. She definitely would benefit from a helper dog.
We walked them both in the grass and she would often check in with the other dog and her handler before proceeding to walk.
Per staff 11/12: During the dog meet Tapioca was very fearful and nervous. She was tolerant to the other dog but would get spooked easily and overcorrect when nervous.
Per staff 11/11: KENNEL PRESENTATION:
In the kennel, Tapioca was lying down on her bed and came up to the front slowly with a lowered body and soft eyes. She sniffed the leash as the handler slowly put it over her.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls strongly
HANDLING:
In the room, Tapioca had a tucked tail, wide scared eyes and was very still in place. After some time, she walked around and did some sniffs, slowly walking around and being a little bit more curious with time. She took some treats very gently and allowed some sweet pets, closing her eyes and the handler rubbed her head and nose. She is a bit nervous but is very tolerant and warmed up quickly. She was very sweet with all handlers and needed a gentle approach!
