** If you are interested in Gemma, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **
Gemma is a sweet, 5-month-old Dachshund / Chihuahua mix who is ready to find her forever home! This tiny bundle of joy weighs just 6 lbs and is expected to grow to around 10 lbs when fully grown. Despite her rough start in life, Gemma is a resilient, friendly, playful, and loving little pup who is blossoming every day.
Gemma was found as a stray on the tough streets of Houston, where she had been struggling with hair loss due to dermatitis. Her condition led to her being placed on the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter, but fate had other plans. She was rescued just in time and has been receiving medicated baths and loving care in her foster home. Thanks to her treatment, Gemma's skin is healing, and her beautiful coat is already growing back quickly.
Although Gemma was initially scared in the shelter, she has blossomed into a happy, playful puppy in her foster home. (And yes, I promise, we are trying to get better photos of her!!)
She loves to snuggle, play, and explore her new surroundings, and her sweet nature is sure to win over anyone who meets her. Gemma is looking for a family that will give her the love and care she deserves as she continues to grow into the wonderful dog she's destined to be.
Since Gemma is just a puppy, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Gemma will form firm bonds with her family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement puppy kindergarten followed by force-free level 1 Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a puppy's ultimate behavior and in their relationship/bonding with their people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.
Gemma is up to date on his vaccines, and spayed.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application.
Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue
We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
