My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Smoky(also known as Elsa)

Elsa came from a hoarding situation.  There were 40+ dogs in one house!  She has gone from pooping in her kennel and eating it (Week1, 2, and 3), to pooping in her kennel and NOT eating it (Week 4, 5, and 6), to pooping outside of her kennel and eating it (Week 7), having occasional accidents -my fault (Week 8, 9).  For about the fist 3 months, I put her to bed around 12am and I would set my alarm for 4am to take her out so she wouldn't go in her kennel. Sometimes that worked and sometimes it did not. There were a lot of mornings I cried.  She was like having a big puppy.  Big puppies can be a lot to clean up after! Lots of poopy laundry.

Elsa has now been in our home for almost 5 months!  She has gone from being totally afraid to cautious and curious!  She sleeps in her kennel through the night.  She will bark if she needs to go out earlier than usual.  This is great!!!!

Here is what Elsa IS:

Loving. Once you earn her trust, she will be by your side all the time.  Time frame for this?  Immediate care giver (you are the one feeding her), probably a day or 2. Family members? Possibly weeks.  Extended family members? Took her 4 months to let my adult son  pet her.  Granted, he only sees her on the weekends, but you get the idea.

Beautiful. Her coat is so pretty now!  I always get compliments when I have her outside.

Smart.  She has learned how to sit and shake.  She will fetch a ball too.

Full of energy.  She has a lot of energy and will not be a dog that is content to set on the couch all day. She does like her naps after her morning zoomies! I have taken her on runs with me and she does ok.  Definitely knows when we are turning towards home!  My pace really improves! LOL!

What Elsa is NOT:

She is not going to trust you right from the start.  She will not run and jump in your arms the first day. That will come in time.

She is not a loner.  She was born into a LARGE pack and likes to have a pack mate or 2. She needs a furry family member.

She will not be the dog you can take to all your family reunions where there will be a ton of people!

--------------------

Elsa will need a family that has another dog, is patient with her and builds on what she has accomplished so far which is nothing more that amazing to me!!!!

My family and I together have been fostering for almost 25 years. I have shared the above information so you will get a better idea of what Elsa needs.  I want her to have a family that can show her all the love she deserves while understanding she needs some time to acclimate to her new surroundings while they keep her safe!

If you do fill out an application, CARE does check to make sure your pets are up to date on vaccines and preventatives.
