Age: 1.5 year (her birthday is 6/5/2023)
Weight: 25 pounds
Location: RI
This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Are you looking for some spice in your life? An active one-of-a-kind canine buddy with a free spirit and full tank of gas? Then Deja Pooh Bear (did you get it???) might be your missing piece!
Deja is an active friendly girl who will keep you on your toes, as well as warm your toes at night with her lush coat. Deja LIVES for playtime with other dogs; she would love another robust and forgiving (as she can be a bit bossy) playful canine (or two or three) in her next home, and regular playdates with doggie friends. Her favorite game is chase, but she will also engage in tug and bitey face. She frequents doggie daycare and outdoor hound adventures and is the life of the party when other active, social dogs are around. She also engages with almost any and every toy throughout the day - balls, chews, antlers, busy toys, bobble balls, flirt pole, stuffies, squeakies, floppies - you name it! She is a big chewer and usually only on appropriate things though she does love a good shred of the occasional tissue and cardboard box. She would likely excel with games like lure course, barn hunt, agility and sniffy games...and would probably love a dig box.
Deja is not hyper, but is more often than not looking for the next fun time. She is a constant source of energy and life, except when she is recharging (ie, napping).
A perfect day for Deja would include a long nature hike in the woods or meadow, a brisk run or slow sniffy walk, some canine chase and wrestling, practicing or learning a new trick, playing flirt pole or tug, a nap or two, and some chew and licky time. Deja has great recall, and will make a fabulous off leash companion where such is allowed with additional practice with her new human(s). She frequents a private 60 acre property where she practices her long distance fetch skills (and brings the ball back!), as well as her sniffy skills (she has found a few interesting things already!).
She is house and crate trained, and content to hang out on the couch or be left alone with chews and frozen licky treats for several hours at a time as long as her fun needs are met throughout the day. Deja will always greet you at the door with gentle "hugs" and "rubs", entwining between your legs like a purring cat. Deja doesn't care to linger in bed in the AM, but is willing to sleep until 7am; she will gladly put herself to bed at night (sometimes with a chew toy) after a full day of fun - she can't wait to see what adventures the next day will bring!
Deja is a brilliant car traveler - she loads up well, and is calm and comfortable buckled into the front or back seat. She even enjoys trips in convertibles with the top down! She has behaved well on trips to relaxed outdoor restaurants if her daily exercise needs are regularly met.
Deja would do best in a single family home with a lot of land as her hearing is too acute and alert for anyone's pleasure in suburban apartment living. She will alert bark when strangers unexpectedly come on/near the property, as well as to distant noises that we mere humans are oblivious to; as such, she would be most content (and enjoyable) on a very large property and away from the hustle and bustle of city and even suburban living. Gentle and patient introductions with strangers go a long way with her, and she also lights up when she sees little humans (especially their sticky fingers).
Deja is looking for a new home as her current one is in a suburban apartment building with too many background noises, as well as with two senior chihuahuas who prefer to spend their golden years napping and sunbathing rather than engaging in her playful antics.
While Deja is smart, and she will deeply love and trust her humans, she is not looking to be obedient - she is looking to have fun! Deja is looking for some humans who will give her the freedom to be herself, find and have fun, and live vicariously through and with her.

Deja's Backstory: Deja first found herself in rescue as a young puppy. From there, she was adopted by her southern foster but then needed to be rehomed as the family faced some life complications. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

*Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
