My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Maybelline Makeup - The happiest and most resilient pup you'll ever meet

Age: 10 Months
Breed: German Shepard Mix (Possibly part English Bull Terrier)
Size: Medium (27lbs)

Maybelline came to us through the most unfortunate of circumstances and may be one of the worst abuse cases we've ever seen. She was confiscated from her owners with multiple broken ribs, a broken femur, a broken jaw, and a broken back. She also was diagnosed with brain injuries and was left completely blind due to her injuries. She was lethargic and in extremely bad shape. Luckily, with the amazing care of Antioch Animal Services and the East Bay VCA, she was able to make huge strides towards recovery. They reached out several months ago and asked us to take her into our Rescue and give her time to heal.

When an animal goes through what Maybelline has been through they are typically very scared and shy animals. That is NOT Maybelline. This strong and resilient girl is as happy as can be. She is constantly wearing a big bright smile and wagging her big bushy tail. She LOVES people‍‍ and loves belly scratches even more. She is the sweetest girl in the world. Because of her blindness and brain injuries she does have a hard time getting around. Maybelline tends to wobble when she walks due to her spinal injury and often loses her footing resulting in her falling over. We have found that she does really well with boots on her back feet.

Maybelline is great with cats (mostly because she can't see them). She is very friendly with other dogs. Smaller breeds must be protected around her as she tends to trample them since she walks very chaotically and can't see where she is going. She also should be watched around small children for the same reason. She loves to chew on toys and bones and absolutely loves to play. Potty training has been a big challenge because of her obvious cognitive and physical challenges. With the right amount of attention and training she may be able to figure it out, and she also may never be capable of figuring it out. But we have benefitted greatly through the use of diapers. Her diet has been great and she loves food. She doesn't go on typical walks but loves to go to the park where she can sniff around and explore at her own pace.

Maybelline has been through so much but she is one big ball of love who is begging for the family she deserves. We can't change her past but hopefully we can give her a future full of love and care. What she needs is a patient person who will allow and accept her to be her unique and beautiful self. Not only will you be rewarded in all the kisses you can stand but her heart is so big you will never feel like anything less than the most important and loved person in the entire world by this sweet girl.

If you are interested in adding this amazing, special and deserving girl into your family, please send us an email to beourpet@gmail.com . She is being fostered in Sacramento CA.

More about this rescue

Umbrella of Hope exists to rescue, rehibilitate, and rehome animals from shelter situations with a focus on East Contra Costa County, California. Our goal is to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable animals through increased adoptions of those animals already born. Help increase public safety by reducing the number of strays and feral animals through population control who might carry disease or pose other dangers to the community. Provide resources to pet owners to enable them to be responsible forever guardians of their companion animals. To increase public awareness of homeless pets, encourage spay and neuter of companion animals, and promote adoption for the acquisition of family pets.
