My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Larry was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on 11/5/2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Larry is a handsome little rooster king who's looking for a new roost to call home. He loves to hunt for insects and tasty weeds! Once thought to be "bird-brained" new research shows that chickens and roosters are intelligent, empathetic, and affectionate pets. Fowl are known to have very distinct and amusing personalities. Anyone who's spent time with them knows how entertaining it is to sit and watch the dynamics between each hen and rooster. Whether they are being cuddly, curious, bossy, or dramatic, there will never be a dull moment with this guy around. Larry would love to find a cozy place to dust bathe in the morning sun. If you're looking to add a handsome rooster to your flock then visit our Escondido campus!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
