Pixie is a cute female Calico kitten who was born in our shelter on Sunday, May 12, 2024 .. Pixie's mother (Tiffy) was brought to the HSOV by a Good Samaritan who found her in the Whipple Ohio area. . Though Tiffy was merely an overgrown kitten herself, she was 'very' pregnant when she arrived in our shelter. Tiffy gave birth to six kittens later that afternoon (which happened to be Mother's Day). Tiffy had several wonderful 'mid-wives' that day (our HSOV kennel techs) who oohed and aahed over her cute newborns (and began giving them their baby names).
Tiffy was a loving mother and was so proud of her kittens .. But our excitement turned to sorrow when five of her beautiful babies passed away over the next few weeks. Only one of Tiffy's babies survived (a little Calico girl named Pixie). Tiffy continued to be a good momma to Pixie .. And she accepted an orphaned tortoiseshell kitten (Tootsie) and lovingly raised her with her biological kitten Pixie.
Pixie has a black-and-beige short smooth coat with a patch of white on her chest, a long tail, and an adorable kitten face with golden eyes, a black velvet nose, and long black whiskers.
Pixie and Tootsie were lovingly raised by their mother Tiffy and were separated from her in early August 2024 after they were fully weaned. Pixie and Tootsie are bestest friends and have their very own 'apartment' (a double-wide cage in The Jungle Room) where they play to their heart's content before snuggling up for a catnap together.
Pixie was given vaccinations and Pyrantel wormer on September 14, 2024. She was given booster vaccines on October 2nd- and October 17, 2024.
These photos of Pixie were taken on October 10, 2024 while she scampered around our 'studio' and played among the fall foliage and tiny pumpkins. Pixie weighed 3.54 lbs that day.
Pixie is being listed as a 'Special Needs Kitten' since she is blind in her left eye due to an ulcer in that eye .. But she doesn't realize she is any different that her 'sister' Tootsie or any other kitten.
Pixie and Tootsie are very bonded with each other, so we feel that it is in their best interest to find a home together. They will be spayed before being adopted by their new family (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized).
Update: Pixie and Tootsie have adoptions pending as of November 6, 2024 .. together of course!!
