My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet our lovely golden girls, Spruce and Evergreen! These gentle ladies have endured unimaginable neglect, but they’re now on the path to recovery and are ready for a home that will treat them with the kindness and care they deserve. Spruce and Evergreen came to us after their previous owner passed away. Sadly, they hadn’t even been given proper names and were simply called "The Pugs." Confined together in a cramped wire crate, they arrived with serious health issues. Their nails were painfully overgrown, their eyes and ears were infected, and their dry, cracked noses were almost unrecognizable. Their coats were matted and smelled strongly of smoke, and they had been left to scavenge food thrown on the floor. As a result, Spruce was emaciated, while Evergreen (with slightly better vision) was a bit overweight from eating the majority of the food.

Thankfully, those days are behind them! Both girls are on the mend, and we’re seeing wonderful improvements in their health and spirits. Spruce has a mild, sporadic cough due to age-related tracheal issues but is otherwise doing well. Daily nose butter has already softened their noses, eye drops are improving their vision, and their ear infections have cleared up. These sweet, serene girls have been basking in the simple joys of just walking around, lounging on a comfy bed or in the sunshine, and receiving gentle affection from our staff and volunteers.

Spruce and Evergreen get along well with other dogs, but they’re quiet and gentle souls who enjoy a laid-back environment. They must stay together, as they’ve been each other's source of comfort their whole lives. We’re seeking a home with experience in caring for senior dogs, where they can age gracefully and enjoy this next chapter in safety and love. If you have room in your heart for two deserving ladies, Spruce and Evergreen would love to spend their golden years with you. Please inquire today about our sweet friends, Spruce and Evergreen!

More about this rescue

Pug Nation Rescue of Los Angeles is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of abandoned, neglected, unwanted, displaced, and abused pugs. Our goal is to find every homeless pug a forever home; if we cannot do that, we pledge to provide a comfortable and loving place for sick or unwanted pugs to live out their lives. Our Board of five and numerous volunteers are passionate about Pug Rescue and live by our motto of “One Pug at a Time”. We feel that through our efforts we can change many of these forgotten Pug’s lives. In order to find our Pugs a home as soon as possible, we hold at least three adoption fairs a month and also organize a number of fundraising events, including the annual Pugtacular festival and Legendary Bingo at Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood. These events and on-line fundraising have provided the money to help pay for vet treatments, medicine and loving care at our Pug Station. We rely on the generosity of our supporters through donations and participation in our fundraising activities. If you would like to make a donation, find out about the next event, become a volunteer, foster, or adopt your own rescue pug, you are in the right place! You can also follow us on Facebook and twitter, there is always something going on and new pugs needing your help.
