My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sam, a jovial spirit who will fill your life with joy. This friendly 5-year-old terrier mix is a giant bundle of love, tipping the scales at 120 pounds. Despite his size, Sam is a gentle soul, always eager to make friends and spread happiness. His friendly nature makes him a great companion for both adults and children alike. His infectious energy and playful antics will keep you entertained, while his loyalty and love will offer comfort. Adopting Sam means gaining a forever friend, a companion who will be by your side through thick and thin. Sam's ready to fill your home with love, laughter, and lots of tail wags. Are you ready to make him part of your family?

Sam is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all of his core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. If you are interested in this giant love bug, stop by or give us a call at 740-314-5583!

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
