Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a
question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If
interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found
at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.
Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file.
Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Moorestown, NJ for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.
Meet Benny! Benny is a 10-year-old, 6 lb., long-haired Chihuahua who was left at a shelter by his owner. He was terrified and had a mouth full of rotten teeth. It was time for a new beginning.
Benny was brought into rescue and immediately received a dental as well as skin treatment for flea dermatitis. Feeling so much better, this little guy quickly warmed up to his foster home. Benny has good hearing and gets along well with dogs and cats. He does have a retinal eye issue that will most likely cause him to slowly lose vision over time. Benny wears belly bands and is mostly housebroken. Like any senior though, he can have the occasional accident when no one is home.
Benny can handle a few stairs but prefers to be carried. He walks well on a leash, but likes exploring a backyard, so a fenced-in yard would be ideal. Benny would be fine with dog-savvy children and would appreciate a home where someone is around most of the time.
Benny is described as a chill, velcro dog who enjoys his couch time. He wants to be wherever you are and doesn’t enjoy being left out. Benny loves his food, (especially peanut butter) and has been known to try and steal an extra snack now and then. He loves getting attention and pets and will do zoomies when you put him on the bed. Oh yes - he wants to sleep with you as well.
This sweet pup requires little and gives so much. Can you please make room for him in your home? Apply today!

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs. To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers. For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.
Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue
We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).
Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
