My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks
the CPR Adoption team

Date into Rescue: 9/24/24
Reason for being in rescue: Owner release/owner was moving into a place where she could no longer have all her dogs
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Kala is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Kala needs a diet and exercise regimen to help her lose weight and live a healthier life. Her thyroid has been tested several times and her weight gain is not a physical issue.  It's all about a healthy lifestyle for Kala - food that is carefully measured and a good walking program will bring her back to health.
Weight: 113 lbs. when surrendered to us - Kala is morbidly obese and on a diet, and exercise plan. She should weigh no more than 70 lbs.  She is doing very well with modified diet and her daily walks.  She has already lost 9 lbs in just over a month.
Height:  24 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? Kala would love a private oasis of her own in a fenced in yard but she also loves the company of people. She could go either way as long as she is with someone who believes in good walks every day.

What kind of home would be best for me?  Kala is a gentle and sweet soul who needs a forever home where the people understand that treats don’t equal love. She will need daily walks and it would be wonderful if her new forever home had a fenced in yard. This would allow her room to run and play to burn off a few more calories. A home with another active dog would be a huge benefit to her, for not only would it provide a playmate, but she could model her behavior after your dog.  However, it is not essential.  She would also be okay as an only dog with lots of time and attention from her people.

Kala’s caring and gentle nature makes her an ideal companion for singles, couples, or families. Our gentle girl would be phenomenal around kids, but Kala may be a bit much for very small children due to her size. Kala is not a fit for a home with small dogs or cats.

If you’re ready to help Kala transform not just her body but her entire life, come meet her today. This lovely girl will bring joy, laughter, and endless love into your home!

What is my personality like? Kala is caring, gentle and sweet. Kala is looking for an active forever home. As a big girl who is currently a bit overweight, she will thrive with adopters who are committed to taking her on daily walks and helping her become a happy, healthy, girl.

Kala will tell you, “I LOVE treats. I mean take one look at me and it’s obvious. But I don’t control what I’m fed so I need human parents to love me differently. Take me on walks, I’ll probably be a little slow at first and won’t be able to go far. Remember I’m just starting my weight loss program. When I lose a little more weight we can go farther and if the vet says it's ok, maybe even hikes on nearby trails or trips to the mountains or beach. Whatever you do I’ll be glad to do it with you. I would love to have a forever home and dream of it every night. I love all people but the love I’ll have for my adopter will be boundless.”

Kala is incredibly affectionate and well-behaved. She loves to lean into you for pets and will nudge your hand for more attention. She wants nothing more than the comfort of your company where she can receive cuddles and pets.

How do I act when I first meet new people? Kala has not met a stranger, loves everyone and expects them to love her back. She adores people and will offer boundless love to her adopters!

Other tips and tidbits: Kala's birthday is 11/10/2016.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
