My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gonzo!
Gonzo is a sweet and resilient 5-year-old Doberman looking for his forever home. He has been through a lot but still has a heart full of love and loyalty. His foster family describes him as a happy, affectionate boy who adores his people. They’ve been helping him learn leash manners, and he's been responding well to crate training, happily going into his crate and showing his calm, gentle side.

While Gonzo is friendly with people, he would do best as the only pet in a home. His high prey drive means he needs a cat-free environment, and he’s shown some food and toy guarding behaviors around other dogs. His foster family has managed this carefully, but for his success and comfort, a home without other pets would likely be ideal. Gonzo would benefit from a family willing to continue his training, as he’s learning quickly and wants to please.

Gonzo is ready to find his perfect match. He’s looking for a family who will appreciate his journey and give him the love, patience, and understanding he deserves. Apply for Gonzo here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DPR/Dog

Go meet their pets

All dogs are in foster homes in various parts of central and eastern PA as well as central NJ. We do adopt dogs out of state as long as the potential adopter is willing to drive to where the dog is being fostered for a meet and greet and to take the dog home. We do not ship dogs and we do not have a central location.

More about this rescue

DPR of PA, Inc. was founded in 1986 by Pam Taylor and incorporated under its present name in 1989. The organization consists of a network of foster homes around Harrisburg, Reading, and York, PA, as well as central NJ. Foster homes are always needed. If you can foster, please complete our application at https://www.dprpa.org/adopt-foster.

All Dobes that come into our rescue receive a full physical and behavioral exam and temperament evaluation which helps match them with the appropriate family. In addition, all dogs are spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations. We also serve as a resource to educate and assist Dober owners and are here to offer knowledgeable advice and answer questions if needed about your Dobe.
