My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!

I have lived with cats.

I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.

Americano is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is very apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he does attempt to flee and avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if he will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

My foster writes: Americano is great little guy. Although he's a little shy now, with some patience and a lot of treats I believe he'll be a friendly, confident kitty. Americano loves to eat, watch cat tv and play with his toys. While he doesn't like to be pet quite yet, he doesn't mind stepping on you to get to his treats.

A volunteer writes: Americano's favorite staff member watched on as I tried desperately to win his friendship. They explained that although his affection can come a bit hard earned, it's definitely worth the extra time. Some cats take longer than others to feel at home and though Americano came from a home with many other cats, it doesn't make adjusting to shelter life any easier. He's looking for a steady place to land his paws, but doesn't quite understand the expectations. Should he say hi to visitors? How does one say hi? Is a little hiss ok? Americano is trying his best to figure things out and is hoping for a family who will see the sparkly star inside. When his staff member came to his condo, I looked on as Americano accepted pets with his feather toy, delicious treats and loving soft words. He just likes to make friends on his own time and it's so lovely to see. Come and give him a chance today.
