My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Onyx can be shy at first and take some time to come out of her shell, but once she gets to know you her love bug self will come out! She can be a bit of a hider at first with new people, but she loves scritches and with some patience always comes out of her shell. She loves to give elevator butt (if you know you know), and purrs like a machine when you earn her trust. She can be slow to warm up to humans but cats?!?!? Oh man, she loves other cats. She is our resident welcome kitty on our second floor, and can be spotted cuddling with every single cat she meets. She is also super playful, especially with wand toys (which are also the best way to earn her trust!). She has a best friend named Scare Crowe (also available for adoption) and would love to be adopted with him, but would also be super happy with your resident cat!

This cat needs to be adopted with a friend -- applications for them as a single cat will not be answered.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
