My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Maya Blue!

This 5 lb, 8-year-old Yorkie mix is a sassy little soul who came to us from Contra Costa Animal Services. We can’t wait to share her journey with you!

✨ It’s Maya’s world, and she occasionally lets us in. She thrives in her familiar spaces and is a little spicy when it comes to human interaction. Not a fan of most touches, she’ll show her sass with alligator rolls and playful hops if picked up. But don’t worry—her “bites” are toothless and gentle!

Maya loves to explore (sometimes in circles), nap, and enjoy her meals. When she does allow you in, she’ll give you those sweet, brief kisses and the occasional ear rub.

She’s not a fan of crates and prefers her own cozy enclosed space at night. While she uses potty pads when needed, she’s still learning her potty training, especially outside her comfort zone.

Due to her aversion to being touched, Maya would do best in a quiet home without children. She’s not keen on harnesses either, so outdoor adventures will need to wait until she’s more comfortable.

Stay tuned for updates as Maya Blue gets closer to finding her forever home. She may be a little spicy, but she’s got a heart of gold just waiting to shine!

More about this rescue

Umbrella of Hope exists to rescue, rehibilitate, and rehome animals from shelter situations with a focus on East Contra Costa County, California. Our goal is to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable animals through increased adoptions of those animals already born. Help increase public safety by reducing the number of strays and feral animals through population control who might carry disease or pose other dangers to the community. Provide resources to pet owners to enable them to be responsible forever guardians of their companion animals. To increase public awareness of homeless pets, encourage spay and neuter of companion animals, and promote adoption for the acquisition of family pets.
