Yahoo, my name is Mercury and I am an active young lad in the market for a new home. I lived with a wonderful person almost my whole life and I was super happy. Unfortunately, my person developed some health issues and they could no longer take care of me so I came to WCHS. I must confess that my current situation has me a bit discombobulated. All the people I have met are very nice and I am being well-cared for, but I really yearn for a place where I can be a true family member and know I will be loved forever. I have so much affection to share with my peeps. I am still a youngster so I know I have a bunch to learn, discover and explore and I am counting on you to help me safely navigate the world and experience new things each day to allow me to continue to grow into a confident young dog. Remember that so many things that seem common to you may be completely new to me, so I hope you will be patient and let me take things at my own pace. I am a big guy and still have a little growing to do so I would appreciate learning righteous manners and dynamite social skills; I hope to be your constant companion and want to be welcome everywhere we go. I already know the cue for ‘sit’ but will need to control my rambunctiousness and practice proper leash skills. Perhaps you could also remind me that the fun activity of counter-surfing is frowned upon and should be avoided. In my previous home when I needed to use the outdoor facilities, I learned to bark at my person to ask to go outside. Although I understand house-training, when I first get to my new home it would be wise to give me plenty of opportunities for bathroom breaks until we are familiar with each other’s signals and routines. I have not had any experience with kitties but I used to go to dog parks and have had great fun romping with other rowdy pups at the shelter. I have not lived with any children but I have met some young humans and did well. Since I may not always know my size and can be boisterous, I should always be supervised around small tykes. It is important that children learn about respecting me, too, and treat me gently because I am fragile and sensitive. I am friendly, outgoing and tolerant of handling; I enjoy cuddles and snuggles but can be very wiggly. I love car rides, especially if we are going someplace

Visit the shelter. We have an application that takes about 15 minutes to fill out once you have found a pet you like. You call back the next day which gives us time to review the application and gives you 24 hours to think about your decision to adopt. You can also complete our on-line application and get approved in advance of finding the perfect companion. Once approved, you are able to adopt an animal the same day.
