My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tucker Boy is being fostered in Overland Park KS (Kansas City MO Area)

Ta da!!!  Meet Tucker Boy  - Tucker Boy is a charming and handsome 1.5-year-old Australian Shepherd with a silky black coat and a current weight of about 42 pounds. Expected to reach around 50 pounds when fully grown, he has a medium energy level and a friendly, gentle demeanor. Tucker is a sociable pup who loves attention from people and is ready to be part of an active, loving family.

Character Traits: Tucker Boy is affectionate and well-mannered, with a knack for winning hearts. He responds well to basic commands, suggesting he may have had some prior obedience training. On walks, he is calm and composed, showing excellent leash manners without pulling or lunging. Tucker has had limited exposure to children but has shown patience and friendliness around neighborhood kids. Though he hasn’t been observed around cats, he gets along well with other dogs, enjoying playtime and impressing his foster family with his high-speed “zoomies” and leaping skills.

Medical Notes:To ensure Tucker Boy’s health and well-being, we conducted genetic testing, particularly concerned about multiple drug resistance (MDR) due to complications following his neutering. Thankfully, he tested MDR1-clear, but he did experience some sensitivity to medications. After his neuter surgery, Tucker showed signs like diarrhea, dry heaves, and loss of appetite, none of which were related to an infection. Additionally, he had an unusually drowsy reaction to a Cerenia injection. While his genetic results are generally excellent, we advise his adopter to use caution with medications, starting with lower doses to see how he responds.

Behavioral Insights: His foster parents report, Tucker Boy has been a joy to foster, displaying great behavior in the house and during meals, with not a single potty accident. Crate training is a work in progress, as he prefers not to be separated from his people or the action around him. He’s highly food-motivated, often offering a “sit” in hopes of earning a treat, and occasionally tries his luck with counter surfing or searching for crumbs. When indoors, Tucker is attentive, settles easily, and always keeps an eye out for nuzzle and snuggle opportunities. He would thrive in a home with a fenced yard and would likely do best with older children (8 and above) and another dog companion to play with.  He doesn't NEED another dog if someone wants him to be their sidekick and take him everywhere or maybe even a dog sport or obedience training.  He would enjoy having another playful 4legged friend to play with though!

His foster parents say: "We absolutely love fostering Tucker Boy. He’s intelligent, athletic, and has a big heart. If Tucker Boy had a favorite superhero, it would surely be Iron Man—smart, strategic, and undeniably good-looking. He’s a wonderful companion, and we are confident he’ll bring so much joy to his forever family." Does this sweetheart speak to you?  Complete an adoption application today to make him part of your family.

Tucker boy is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, negative for all tick borne diseases and taking monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworm.

Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
