My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gyoza is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match!

We spotted Gyoza at Chicago Animal Care and Control in early October. She had been sitting there for a few weeks, and everyone we spoke to loved her and really wanted to see her back in a home. Gyoza was brought to CACC by the police, after her owner passed away in her home and Gyoza was left fending for herself. Gyoza was clearly loved and well taken care of by her owner, so you can imagine how confused she was to find herself in such a place. On top of the trauma she experienced, Gyoza picked up kennel cough at CACC, so was not feeling her best. It was just so heartbreaking so we knew we had to leave with her that day.

We are so lucky that she scored an amazing foster home where she recovered her health and good spirits! Gyoza's foster mom adores her. She is a perfect size and age, and is a great walker on leash. She wants everyone she passes to pet her! She is not bothered by dogs, crowds, or even the fireworks that went off after the local high school football game. Gyoza is left to free roam when she leaves for up to 6 hours with no issue.

Gyoza does not live with a dog, but we have seen her interact with dogs and while she is not interested in playing, after an initial warming up period and maybe a quick snarl if they get too familiar, she is fine! Her foster mom walks her with her sister's boxer mix and they walk for a mile or two together without issue.

Gyoza does not live with kids, but her foster mom writes, "Teenage boys are her favorite, I have 2 nephews and she loves them. She has also been exposed to smaller kids on our walks and she's friendly but I have no small children in my home. She is also great with my 12 year old niece who is autistic."

Gyoza is a gem in need of an adoptive home in which to live out her golden years. Read on to see what else her foster mom has to say about her!

"I've had Gyoza in my home for a few weeks. We've all been calling her GoGo for short. (mostly because we were all pronouncing her name differently). She came to me with a bit of kennel cough so she wasn't real active, rather mellow. Well, the cough is gone and she is full of spunk, Gyoza LOVES to be outside, she's a real help when raking leaves. She knows basic commands like sit and lay down, she does tend to crawl closer when I have her lay down. I have a large fenced-in backyard and she comes when called.

She's a pleasure to have around, and she's a good sound sleeper, 10:00 pm. is bedtime and we are usually up at 6 am. In the car, she likes to look out the window so a window seat is her preference. She is eager to please and still very playful even thou she is a more mature dog. If you need a walking buddy, she's your girl, (as long as she can stop to pee along the way). Gyoza is the perfect size, right around 35 pounds.

She does like to sleep on my "dog friendly" couch, and she's learning not to get up on my new "non dog friendly" couch. Gyoza has a dog bed with a blanket in the that she likes to "nest" with and she sleeps there most of the time."

Gyoza's adoption fee is $150. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
