My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Cleopatra**
Cleopatra is a sweet and gentle pup with a cautious side, especially around new faces. Her journey hasn't been easy-she was abandoned, tied to a bench alongside another dog, and has since shown resilience and a shy yet lovable personality. Despite her initial fearfulness, Cleopatra warms up with time, showing her playful spirit. She loves toys, with tug-of-war being her absolute favorite, and is excellent at letting go for you to pick them up.

Cleopatra has had positive interactions with other dogs, but she can sometimes come off as a bit "puppy-rude. For this reason, it's best if her future home includes a well-socialized dog who can guide her through her puppy antics. Because of her shy nature, a home with older children who understand her need for gentle patience would suit her best. She's highly food-motivated and eager to learn, making her a great candidate for positive reinforcement training. Cleopatra is ready to be the little queen in a loving home that can nurture her as she grows.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
