My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Stormy, formally known as "Stormaggedon Dark Lord of All," a big-hearted pup with boundless energy and a playful, mischievous spirit. Stormy knows basic commands like sit, down, and wait, and she's got a selective recall-especially if there's a treat involved! While she's responsive to a deep, authoritative voice, she'll often test her limits if she senses a softer tone. Stormy's puppy clumsiness adds to her charm but also means she has zero spatial awareness, so she sometimes bowls over kids in her excitement. She adores children and other dogs, but her lively nature can be a bit overwhelming for young ones. When she gets going, she plays with all her might, running, romping, and even trying to join the neighbor's dog for a spirited game through the fence. Just a word of warning: she's not the ideal housemate for cats, as she's more than a little tempted to imitate their acrobatics!

Stormy is a friendly, social butterfly who loves meeting everyone she passes on her walks, where she'll happily sniff and even play with people's toes if given a chance! True to her puppy nature, she chews anything she can find, often preferring non-dog toys to her own. Her go-to distraction is a Kong filled with frozen peanut butter, and a slow feeder might be just what she needs to pace her excitement. With her high energy, Stormy needs lots of supervision and enrichment; leaving her alone in the yard could lead her to escape over a 4-foot fence in search of fun. Though her "brakes are still a work in progress, her "go button is always ready, and she's a blast to play with for anyone willing to match her enthusiasm. Stormy would thrive in a home with plenty of time, energy, and space, where she can be the endlessly sweet, playful companion she's meant to be.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
