My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Apollo Cheese is a sweet and gentle giant with a heart as big as his paws. Found as a stray, Apollo quickly charmed everyone he met with his calm, affectionate nature. True to his Rottweiler roots, he's a strong boy on leash, but beneath that strength lies a tender spirit that craves companionship. Apollo's favorite moments are those spent with his humans-whether it's getting belly rubs or leaning in for some well-earned pets after a walk. His soulful eyes and loving demeanor make it impossible not to fall in love.

While Apollo enjoys his outdoor adventures, he is just as happy lounging by your side, soaking up affection and resting his massive frame. He thrives on routine and will benefit from a steady hand to guide him on leash, ensuring his strength matches his manners. Apollo is ready to leave behind his stray days and find a forever family that will appreciate his loving nature, dedication, and gentle soul. With Apollo Cheese by your side, you'll have a loyal companion who will bring endless joy and cuddles into your life.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
