My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Zazu was brought in by a community member on November 2, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
This is Zazu! Zazu is a lovely little parakeet who's looking for a human who isn't afraid of commitment. With proper care, budgies like Zazu can live for 10 years! Once they warm up, parakeets are mellow and good natured creatures who are intelligent and social! Budgies form close bonds with their humans, however they are communal and are happiest when they have budgie companions as well. When they are not spending time with their humans, Zazu will need a large flight cage. Zazu is looking for a home where they can happily, nap, sunbathe, nest, and flirt with their human and avian friends. Zazu will need a high quality food - and that doesn't mean just a seed or pellet mix. The most important thing for a budgie to eat is sprouts: sprouted seeds, peas, and legumes, as well as fresh vegetables and the occasional bit of fruit and egg. If you're enamored by parakeets, ask about Zazu today! Don't forget to bring a secure carrier when you adopt Zazu today!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
