Lexi is a 5 month old white GSD that has a sad story. On July 25th a woman was driving down a busy road in NC headed to the grocery store when she was a puppy in the grass about 6 inches from the road not moving and appearing to be in trouble. She stopped along with another vehicle. She checked her gums and they were white and the puppy was panting very hard. This woman had some other bystanders help load Lexi into her vehicle and she took her to her vet where they determined she had 3 fractured ribs and sent her to an emergency vet to stabilize her from being in respiratory distress which was a 2 day stay in an oxygen chamber. The ER discovered 5 fractured ribs not 3. This woman spent $3500 on Lexi ’s vet bills and eventually found her owners. Her owners had recently moved and tried to build a makeshift fence. Lexi was usually put on a tie out in the inside portion of the fence but on this day the wife had just left her in the poorly secured yard which led to her jumping the flimsy fence and presumably being hit by a car. The owner couldn’t provide financially for Lexi so the finder took ownership of her. She wants to make sure Lexi goes into a rescue where she will be adopted and have a wonderful life.
Lexi just arrived at our home so is still settling into our household routine. She is a high energy pup that does not quite understand why she can’t run and play with her foster brothers until her ribs totally heal in another 2-3 weeks. She is learning leash walking and other basic commands, settles nicely into her crate at night, likes to play with her toys, is very enthusiastic when meeting other dogs so needs help to refine her social skills, and is a very affectionate young girl that loves everyone she has met. She is looking for a forever home that will be able to devote time to her training, giving her boundaries and structure so she can become the best she can be.
Lexi will not be available for adoption until after she is spayed, but is looking forward to meet and greets with approved adopters prior to her spay procedure. Interested approved adopters can contact me at rodschlemm@gmail.com for more information. She is being fostered in King George.
