MAGENTA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Come meet Magenta and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Nov. 10) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Rockville (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!
Name: Magenta Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix
Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of July 2024 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 15.7 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested.
Because Magenta is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Magenta in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.
Currently Living At: DC area foster home

Special Adoption Considerations: Magenta is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Magenta is Looking For: Magenta landed in a rural, overcrowded Texas shelter nursing her puppies. She was heartworm positive and was brought to the Lucky Dog rescue campus to receive treatment. Despite her rough previous chapter, she is just such a sweetie.
She's looking for her new chapter, the one where she gets her own humans for sniffy walks and world exploration. She just wants to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof. And to know upon whom to bestow all the adoring gazes and snuggles she has been storing up.
What do you say? Is Magenta the companion you have been seeking?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
