Peach is sweeter than pie! This mid-sized mixed breed-mama was abandoned with her five babies (Blueberry, Cherry, Gooseberry, Lime, and Pecan). Discovered in a near-skeletal state and still doing her best to feed and care for her pups, Peach was nursed back to health under the benevolent watch of a wonderful community member (despite this good Samaritan being in the midst of their own medical crisis). Even though Peach's savior was in and out of the hospital, they managed to ensure that Peach and her pups received medical care, got them nursed back to a healthy weight, and even started the puppies on potty training and overall house manners. A stark contrast to their cruel and hopeless start, this this sweet family of six was given the second chance of a lifetime -- twice!
We jumped at the chance to take them in thanks for the sacrifice and effort put into saving and rehabilitating them. Peach just got spayed, and her puppies will be right behind her in a couple of weeks' time.
So here are some fun facts: -Just as distinctive as her lack of tail is the scarring on her face - we don't know much about her except that she herself is the progeny of abandoned and feral dogs and that this litter is far from being her first. -Being abandoned and probably receiving physical abuse at the hands of humans has not dampened her desire to connect with and be loved. Yes, she is shy and initially fearful, but we'd be more surprised if she wasn't. All things considered, it's actually more surprising how quickly she warms up to strangers! -Not only could she teach a masterclass on happy booty wiggles, she also has a stunning smile she's eager to show off. Imagine a milk-chocolate-colored streamlined missile (no tail, ears tucked back) wiggle-wiggle-wiggling her way to you with that million-dollar-grin. -She is housebroken, child-friendly, dog-friendly, quiet, friendly, affectionate, a couch potato, and if you give her enough time, she'd LOVE to regain her puppyhood and get to playing with toys.
Basically, she'd be a wonderful addition to almost any household - active or calm, lots of kids or an older retiree - as long as someone is there to give her all the affection she's missed out on for most of her life and make sure she feels safe, she'll be more than happy to repay that investment.
Here's a quote from the person who saved her: "I'm the one who took in Peach, formerly 'momma' and her pups from their situation. She's literally the BEST dog I've ever had, and I've had many pets. When I got out of the hospital, her empathy towards me radiated even more and she never left my side, sleeping on my entire body and very concerned the entire time while still caring for her babies and worrying about them staying in line for me! When I found her she very obviously led me to her sick babies while herself in such horrible shape. Once she knew they were safe, she basically slept for two days straight, exhausted while I placed the babies on her to feed at times because she was so tired. She is a VERY special dog and unlike any animal I've seen! Her puppies have been very well loved on since opening their eyes and will be excellent family members. I'm so happy to see momma looking so good!
