Malinois, female, 8 months

Meet Lyra, a beautiful juvenile (6-8mos), 45 pound Malinois. A Good Samaritan emailed us begging for help for this sweet girl. When we asked for the backstory she said the following, “She was found in Riverside locked out of this crack house where she wasn’t being fed and treated horribly. The neighbors were feeding her. All she wants to do is play and be loved. She loves other dogs, cats, and humans.” Lyra is a stellar and resilient dog. The type who has been through and seen it all, yet remains the sweetest of souls. Lyra is housebroken and working on crate training. If you are looking for a super smart, active, loyal companion, look no further. Mals are some of the smartest and most loyal breeds around. Once you have one, there’s no going back.

She is UTD on vaccines and will be spayed and microchipped in the coming days. She can set sail after that.

Central Coast Border Collie Rescue (CCHDRescue) is dedicated to helping find homes for Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog/Queensland Heeler, Australian Kelpie, and other herding breeds and mixes. This site lists dogs in shelters as well as dogs in homes and foster care, and is intended to help adopters seeking good dogs, and dogs seeking loving homes. 7

Why we do it: Herding dogs are not for every one. Too many adopters get these dogs as status symbols only to find out, their life style doesn't meet these high energy dogs needs. As a result, these wonderful misunderstood dogs wind up in shelters. We understand what drives these dogs, we can place them appropriately.
