My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Clifford, a 2-year-old, 65-pound black lab in search of a forever home. His family, who recently relocated, left him at their old home, visiting him regularly. They chose to do this due to their child's dog allergy, aiming to keep their new home dander-free. Clifford is well-trained in house manners, leash walking, and is sociable with other dogs after a proper introduction. He may be shy initially and requires time to adapt to new surroundings. Clifford, who is flourishing in a foster home, is ready for a forever family. A home with older, dog-savvy children is necessary due to his shyness.

More about this rescue

The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs). Visit our website to learn more about us at heartofamericahs.org.
