My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I`m Sarge! I`m a little over 3 years old and weigh 68 pounds.

I`m a very sweet, smart, affectionate guy. I generally spend my days hanging out quietly in the staff office while they do their work. I`m sort of like an honorary employee, cause I help keep them on track with snuggles and face licks. They seem to really need extra support some days, and that`s when I let them put silly outfits on me (see my second photo with my butterfly headband!) I don`t mind, though. I would do anything for the humans I love.

** Here is what a volunteer says about me:
`Sarge seems to have become less shy than he originally was and I found him easy to harness and eager to get out for walks. He is so soft and cuddly and after walks we just kind of hand out in kennel for a bit. He isn`t a loud boy and he is a gentle walker with me. We have not encountered other dogs as we walk the grounds so I`m not aware of any dog reactivity. I look forward to seeing him soon on the adoption side.` **

Do you like dogs? Sometimes! I don`t always mesh with every dog I meet. Please bring any dogs in the home to see how we hit it off! I would do best with dogs around my size.

Cats? Staff recommend I go to a kitty-free home.

Kids? I can be jumpy at times and may accidentally knock over little kiddos. Please bring any kids in the home to meet. 8+

I came into the shelter as a surrender and the above information is all recommendations based on my previous history and the behavior seen at the shelter. Expect to learn more about me after adoption.

It is unknown how this animal will do in their new home as all animals can be different with each person. It is important to take this into consideration when thinking about adopting and making sure you are prepared to work with any potential medical or behavior issues that occur after adoption.

My adoption fee includes my spay/neuter, current vaccinations, permanent microchip identification, certificate for a free veterinary exam, post-adoption support and more!

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me! If you think we would be a good match come on down and ask to meet me! I`m looking for my forever home and it could be with you!

ADOPTION INFORMATION: If you live in the city of Eugene or in Lane County you will be purchasing a dog license in addition to the adoption fee. You will get to choose between a one year, two year, or three year license.

More about this shelter

Greenhill Humane Society has been caring for animals in Lane County since 1944. We operate the only animal shelter within the Eugene/Springfield area. Our programs include animal adoptions; reuniting lost animals with their families; disaster response; crisis care boarding in situations of domestic violence, medical emergencies, and other crisis situations; spay/neuter for free roaming, un-owned community cats; a pet pantry; on-site volunteer opportunities; foster care and humane education.

Last year, we helped reunite or find new loving homes for 2,826 animals. In addition, we provided 469 cat spay/neuter surgeries to assist cat caregivers in reducing feral cat over-population.

Greenhill is a private non-profit and relies on donations for a majority of its budget. The generosity of our local community enables us to provide a high level of care to lost, abandoned, and neglected animals while at the same time helping pet owners in need.
