My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Luna
Breed: blue heeler
Age: approx 1yr
Gender: female (intact)
Vaccines: UTD on all vaccines and hw prevention
Weight:25-35lb
Dog friendly
Cat friendly
Kennel trained
**needs experienced handlers, never socialized prior to being surrendered. She does open up when her person isn't present **

Owner surrender from Minden, LA. Had 6 puppies shortly after arrival. Northern rescue accepted her puppies, but not her.

***UPDATE***
Luna came to me as a foster on 12/08/2024. She was very nervous upon first handling and would bolt to try and get away. If not leashed and in a fenced yard if she was able to get away she would have run off and never looked back. After several outs of sitting with her talking calmly and offering treats slowly, she began to come closer and allow touch. She is a very sweet girl and within 4hrs of her arrival, she allowed handling and now seeks not only my attention but my hand and sons ages 4yrs and 6yrs. She can be mouthy but never with the kids and she’s very gentle with me. She likes to run around outside in a fenced area off-leash and returns to us for attention with no issue. Does well in her crate, on leash, and with bathes. She will nervous/excited urinate sometimes but mostly first thing in the morning when letting her out of her crate for the first time of the day.

This little lady has lots of potential for someone willing to go slow and gain her trust. She seeks human interaction, especially with kids. Although she is still very new to me and my family she is showing that she has a big heart and wants so badly to have a family of her own.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require potential adopters to fill out an Adoption Application. When that is approved we can arrange for the prospective adopter to meet the dog they are interested in. We do require an adoption contract to be signed at time of adoption. We have a virtual home-check process (don't forget to submit photos of the exterior of your home!) Adoption fees range depending on the age of the dog. We do have dogs located at qualified fosters throughout the state and also out of state.

Go meet their pets

Since all rescue dogs live in foster homes, there is no single facility to meet pups.

You will need to contact Ewenity Farms HDH to make arrangements to meet the rescue dog after you have an approved app on file. Apps can be filled out at ewenityfarm.org

More about this rescue

We are a small, foster-based rescue organization located in Southwest Florida. Being small helps us give more one-on-one attention to individual dogs and their needs. Rescued dogs are kept in our homes and treated as our own. Herding dogs are unique. They are highly intelligent and require much of the owner’s attention. The dogs are evaluated, when they come into the rescue, for any temperament and health issues. Then they are given basic obedience, socialization and rehabilitation as it is necessary.

It is our sole purpose to find forever homes for these loving, wonderful dogs that have been discarded through no fault of their own. All adopted dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, micro-chipped, and on flea and heartworm preventative.
