Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
We first heard about Lora as one of a group of stray dogs that had been dumped in a neighborhood. We were able to trap Lora and her brother, Rowan, but were unable to locate the other three dogs. While scared before being trapped, once out of the traps she and her brother proved to be happy, friendly, and lively young dogs!
Both Lora and her brother had been hit by a car at some point when puppies. They had never been treated for their injuries. Luckily for Lora, her vet was able to perform surgery on her hip to repair the old damage and she recovered well! Lora runs with the other dogs in her foster home and walks nicely on a leash. She still limps on occasion, but this should get better as she continues walking and playing. Slow walks uphill help a lot with this recovery! She does not need further surgical intervention.
Lora is looking for an adult home that is relatively active and will take her out on walks and adventures! She loves her people and foster siblings! She's a great companion!

All HEART dogs have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies, kennel cough, distemper, parvo, adenovirus, and hepatitis. All dogs over the age of six months are tested for heartworms and, if they test positive, have either been treated or provided alternative slow-kill treatment. Dogs are provided monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Dogs are also provided additional medical care, as needed. This care may include amputations, wound repair, treatment for skin disorders, dental care, treatment for infection and other medical needs.

Their adoption process
Additional adoption info
If you find a dog or cat in which you are interested, please email us for an adoption application! This is how our adoption process begins! Our organization is made up of volunteers who work full time jobs when not doing rescue. We generally have access to our email throughout the day, but not the phone, so please email for quickest response! Because we are at work, we cannot always answer you right away. Please give us time!
You can also fill out an application to be pre-approved to adopt, if you don't see a particular breed and/or dog of interest on our site. Once approved, HEART will hold your application for three months and contact you when a dog or cat enters our program that we believe might be a good match for your family.
It takes about a week to ten days to process an application, depending on the time available to our volunteers and how quickly references call back. If we must ask for information not included in the application, or we discover information not addressed in the application, the process does get bogged down and may take longer.
Our adoption fees vary depending on the type of animal of interest. Generally, cats are between $95 and $115. Dogs tend to be between $150 and $225.

More about this rescue
We are a nonprofit, all volunteer, limited admission rescue organization funded by private donations. We are committed to responsiblly re-homing homeless and unwanted dogs and cats.
We are a limited admissions rescue. We can only take in as many animals as our foster homes can safely and responsibly care for. We do not euthanize animals to make room for more. We simply stop taking in new animals until we have room. Each homeless companion animal will remain in our care until he or she finds a new home.
