My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Klaus, an active and charming 11-year-old Havanese senior, who's looking for a comfortable retirement home. Despite his age, Klaus still has plenty of pep in his step. He recently had a dental and has limited vision due to cataracts. However, that doesn't stop him from being a happy, friendly fellow.

Klaus does suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for too long, so a home where he won't be left by himself much would be ideal. He's currently transitioning to a special diet for crystal maintenance, which helps keep him healthy. In his previous home, Klaus lived with and raised a cat, so he should do well with another pet in the household. Though he's on the larger side for a Havanese, he's still a small dog who's full of love and ready to bring joy to his forever home.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

    Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

    Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

    Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

    1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

    2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

    3. Freedom from distress

    4. Freedom from discomfort

    5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
