Meet DUDE! Rescued by HFP with his littermates and mom last winter, he was lovingly hand raised in foster care and adopted around 2-3 months of age. Unfortunately, it was not a forever match and now Dude is in need of a new home. He is an exuberant, friendly, active young dog who would love an equally active home. He may love agility training! He has lived with kids, cats and made dog friends, but may do best in a pre-teen + home as he can jump up in excitement and knock down small children/overwhelm smaller animals. More notes about DUDE:

Where did you get this dog?: Hearts For Paws Rescue

How long have you owned this dog?: 7 months (adopted at 3 months of age)

Why is the dog being given up?: His activity level is more than we are able to accommodate. He and our cats have been unsuccessful in cohabitation, as he will constantly approach very quickly (though friendly), which scares them. Additionally, we have several small nieces and he will approach children in a similarly exuberant fashion. He is an incredible dog, but we aren't the right family for him.

More about Dude: Dude is very smart, and picks up commands very quickly. He is very treat motivated. However he is extremely excitable, especially when there are other dogs or new people. He has never been aggressive, but is determined to play.

Check the words that best describe your dog.: FRIENDLY, NOISY, ACTIVE, PLAYFUL, SMART, AFFECTIONATE

Is your dog housebroken?: Yes

Does the dog get along with: Dog-Friendly

Are there any behavior problems?: Yes

If yes, please describe in as much detail as possible: Dude is very reactive. If there are other dogs he will bark to try and initiate play. If there are other dogs barking in the neighborhood he will rush out to bark, as well. When new people are present he will try and jump up on them for several minutes until calmed down, at which point he stops.

Please elaborate on your dogs interactions with other dogs in detail: He has had play interactions with two friendly dogs owned by friends/neighbors. Both dogs are medium/large dogs with low energy. He had a consistently high level of activity during play, even after the other dogs were finished playing. He has had cursory interactions with other dogs during training sessions and was consistently attempting to interact with them until a vision barrier was put in place. He has never been aggressive towards other dogs.

Does your dog have handling sensitivities? How is your dog meeting strangers?: He want's to meet and be with everyone he sees. If they come to the house, or out in public, he whines and makes it clear he wants to see/ meet them. He has been trained to sit before getting pet, but it has had minimal success due to his excitability.

Does the dog like children?: Yes

Are there children in the home?: Yes

What are their ages?: 7

Where does the dog sleep?: crate

Is the dog allowed on your furniture?: No

Is the dog crate trained?: Yes

Where do you keep your dog: free access to doggie door, kept to kitchen and dining area (away from cats)

How does the dog react to being left alone?: He may whine and cry for a few minutes, but is able to be left in his crate overnight and has been able to be left alone at home for several hours.

Please list any particular fears your dog has.: none that are known.

Describe any training the dog has, tricks it knows, and any experience with a trainer.: Graduated beginner course at PetSmart. Knows sit, down, come, wait, take it, leave it. He is leash trained

Does the dog have any known health problems?: No

Does the dog like riding in the car?: Yes

What is the dog's favorite : He likes tough fabric toys and tug toys, but will destroy any non-KONG rubber toy in a few minutes by ripping it apart. Walks, fetch (or rather keep away), and tug-o-war. He also enjoys wrestling, but we have curbed that behavior in favor of more tug-o-war to discourage jumping on people.

What does the dog like?: Play and attention, and the chance to run.

What does the dog dislike?: being bored, or cooped up indoors.

Does the dog jump kiddie gates or fences?: No

Is there anything else you can share that is special, unusual, or endearing about your dog that will help the new owners?: Dude loves everyone. He has high energy and is very smart, so he likes a lot of different interactions. He is very perceptive to training, but can get distracted.. He really likes baby carrots. Despite his high desire to meet/greet new people, he respects barriers that are set for where he can go; we have a baby gate set up that he will not cross, even when open.

Are there any things you think a new owner needs to know?: His high (exuberance) needs to be taken into account at all times. If anything new comes in his area of perception, he will be extremely enthusiastic about it. This is great for people who love dogs, but may be scary to small children, small animals, or people with aversion to dogs. He has never been aggressive towards anyone/anything, but he will approach new people/things very quickly and enthusiastically. He may love agility training!
