Warm fall days brought to you by this bundle of sunshine. Meet ElliAna! This young gal was on her way to get some back to school supplies and guess what? Boom! she was scooped up by some friends and redirected to HSWC book fair. She was a bit shy at first, a bit overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of all the other residents yowling about their favorite books. She quickly made a few friends that went into her cubbie and sat with her to make her feel welcome. She is a bubbly girl- 5 stars deep in the super sweet department. She happily greets her friends and dances all around when it's her turn to go out. She still needs a minute to warm up to new people. But she has a delightful personality. She patiently sits in line and does a great "Watch me" to look into your eyes for direction. We know she will do well in school. She has potential to have great focus. She is neat in her kennel but as a youngin, she will need help with self control and hygiene. (Bushing up on potty training will be a breeze). Helping her hold her focus in her "sit" for longer periods of time will help her control her bounciness. She is at the perfect age to absorb training and excel. Going slowly during the first two weeks in her new home will help her settle in well and have good manners. Separating from other animals and avoiding new people coming over until after she has learned the routine will set her up for success in your life. She is a wonderful joyful girl with lots of love to give. If you are skipping to the end of the chapter, here are the highlights: •Timid at first. •Sweet sunshine personality. •Smart and highly trainable. •Medium puppy energy. 35 pounds. •Has walked by dog and cats ok. •Seems to prefer calm small dogs as her friends. She shys away from Large barking dogs right now. •Polite manners. Grab your favorite book and come read with ElliAna. She is eager to pack up her favorite books and come stay with you. She will make the perfect companion for walks on the SU campus, reading in the park, and snuggles on the sofa!

More about this shelter
The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
