My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Catfish! Catfish is the sweetest, most friendly kitten and he has quite the story - buckle up! He is about 7 months old and we rescued him from a shelter in North Carolina. He was in ROUGH shape when he arrived at the shelter, and thankfully we were able to quickly get him the vet care he needed. He had a badly infected back leg that he was unable to walk on. X-rays thankfully showed that it was not fractured, but he ended up needing multiple surgeries to clear out the infection. Drain tubes were surgically placed twice and our little guy also underwent a blood transfusion! We really are so thankful to our vet for the lengths they will go to save a kitten. During all of this, his head began to tilt to the side for unknown reasons, but the doctor verified that it was not painful or problematic, but he will likely always be a little crooked. We think this just adds to his charm, as he always looks like he's carefully listening and reflecting on what you are saying to him. After a long hospitalization, he was finally completely healed and ready to go to a foster home. He really is the most joyful kitten who loves everyone he meets. He gets along wonderfully with cats, dogs and kids. He loves to be held and carried around kissed on the nose. He is so affectionate! When he's not actively cuddling somebody, you can find him playing with his toys or with the other kittens, or napping on the highest perch of the cat tree. He has a dog-like personality and is the first to run to the door to greet you. He did not have an easy kitten-hood, that's for sure, but the challenges he faced seemed to make him so appreciative that he now gets the opportunity to live his best life! We are proud of you buddy!

This cat is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and tested negative for FIV/Felv.

If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit a 'Cat Adoption Application'   at   www.DelawarePetRescue.org/forms
This website is updated daily.  If the animal you are interested in adopting is listed as 'available for adoption', that means the animal is still in DPR's care.

*Please note - we do not do in-person meet and greets. Potential adopters can speak to the cats foster mom on the phone or do a meeting on Zoom or Facetime if desired to virtually meet the cat. You can pick your kitty up 'curb side'. Cats can be returned with a full refund for up to one week. *

DPR cats receive the following medical care prior to adoption:

Initial vet visit
Spay or neuter (if cat is 6 months or older)
Rabies vaccination (if cat is 6 months or older)
Distemper vaccination
SNAP testing for FIV, Leukemia and heart worm
Broad spectrum dewormers
Monthly flea/tick preventative
Ear mite preventative
The above is standard for ALL cats in our care. But many cats we rescue also require some additional TLC prior to adoption, such as antibiotics, eye ointments, wound care, fungal treatment, x-rays, or various surgeries.  We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charity. The adoption fee helps to offset our standard and non-standard vet bills.

More about this rescue

Visit our site at www.DelawarePuppyRescue.org if you are interested in one of our pets.

DPR was established in 2004 as a 501(c) non profit organize and an all volunteer rescue organization. We are not a shelter. We rescue both cats and dogs. We care for these pets in our foster homes until proper and stable homes are found through a multi-step adoption process. Our ultimate goal is to match families with our pets so that they live out their lives in loving, educated, safe homes for the remainder of their lives. Our additional goals in rescue are to educate the public in the importance of spaying/neutering and exposing the truth behind pet store puppys and the horrors of puppy mills.
