This handsome young dude is Yancy, and he’s antsy to find his furever family! Yancy was found as a stray, covered in fleas, and in dire need of some groceries. But now he sports a fluffy white coat and a great big smile! His frame is tiny for a Pyr, as he’s only around 60 pounds, so he’s what we affectionately call a Pocket Pyr! Due to his tiny frame, he only needs a 5’ fence, but he prefers to spend the majority of his time indoors, wanting to be with his people. Yancy is a very affectionate boy, and he will soak up all the attention he can get! He has a silly and playful side, is medium energy, and overall very sweet and calm. He’s a tiny bit nervous at new experiences, but adjusts quickly, as was evident when he went to a recent dog fair and did amazing meeting loads of dogs and kids! He’s good with everyone, including being very chill with cats! This smart boy is crate trained, walks well on leash, and knows how to “sit” and “lie down” on command. He will come when called more often than most Pyrs, but you’ll improve the odds if you offer up some pieces of hot dog! Yancy barks less than the average Pyr, digs a little when he’s excited, and is very responsive to mild correction. He is protective of his food, so he’ll need to be fed separately until he learns that food will never be scarce again. He’s a curious fella, and would love a mildly active family who will take him out to explore the world with car rides, walks and adventures! Then back home for snacks and snuggles! Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport. Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for senior dogs (7 or older) and foster dogs will be adjusted accordingly.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
