My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 9 years

Size: 8 lbs

Estimated breed: Chihuahua/Pug mix

Wilbur was confiscated from a home with over 40 chihuahuas living in terrible conditions. Rescuers found dogs living under the home, feces completely covering the floor, and newborn and nursing babies living in couch cushions and under furniture. Several dogs had began leaving the house out of an open window in search of help. Help came just in time, and all 40 surviving dogs were taken to the shelter and checked out by a vet. Along with several other rescues, we agreed to get the whole group out of the shelter and into rescues and foster care!

Wilbur is the oldest dog of the bunch, but don't let his age fool you - he's still got plenty of pep in his step! He is a sweet little old man with a sweet and gentle demeanor. Wilbur does well with all dogs and people, and we assume he'd do okay with cats too. Due to his age, we recommend he to go a home with older kids or no kids. He has some eye issues and will need daily eye drops to manage dry eye, but does still have some vision and gets around just fine. Wilbur is looking for a comfy retirement home to be spoiled for the rest of his days!

Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Nirvana Animal Rescue! Our adoption process is in place to ensure we find you the perfect match. The process includes the following steps:

Submission of online application.

Volunteer review of your application, including a background check on all adults living in the home, checking personal references, contacting your landlord if you rent, and contacting your veterinarian if you have current pets.

Phone interview with a volunteer to discuss the answers on your online application, share more information about Nirvana Animal Rescue, and answer any questions you have.

Virtual home visit with a volunteer to review your home and yard and ensure it is a safe environment for a dog.

If your application passes the above steps, the final step is arranging a time for your entire family, including resident dogs, to meet the dog you’d like to adopt! We require that everyone in the family meet the new dog before fully approving the adoption.
