Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Glinda, a beautiful domestic shorthair calico with a quiet, gentle nature and a heart waiting to blossom. With her delicate blend of soft oranges, whites, and blacks, Glinda is as lovely as she is reserved. This shy girl prefers the comfort of solitude and often keeps to herself, finding cozy corners where she can observe the world at her own pace. She’s not one to jump into the spotlight, but with patience and a calm environment, Glinda has the potential to show her sweet, tender side.
Glinda needs a special forever home—one that understands her need for space and will give her the time she needs to feel safe and secure. With the right family, she could truly come out of her shell and discover a life filled with love and companionship. Glinda is perfect for someone looking for a calm, independent friend, and who believes that the quietest hearts often have the most to give.
Meet and greet/adoption appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. Please call or e-mail the shelter to set up an appointment to meet and adopt!
DON'T FORGET! Cats often do better with a friend! All our cats and kittens have an "Adopt one and the 2nd at half the adoption fee!" bonus!!!
Our kitten/cat adoption fees vary on age, special needs, lonely heart status (cats that have been with us 6+ months), and for our senior to seniors program. Our adoption fees include the following: all of our cats/kittens are current on vaccinations (FVRCP series and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), treated for fleas/ticks/earmites in addition to being spayed or neutered once the cat reaches 2 lbs in weight. All cats and kittens adopted from the shelter are microchipped. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances.
Because we are on a busy street, we require that all cats leaving the shelter be in a carrier. All pets are up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee is paid.

More about this shelter
BRHS formed in 1998 to help the Brookings Animal Control Department find homes for stray animals. The unclaimed, homeless cats and dogs from Animal Control are BRHS' priority. Those unclaimed are transferred to BRHS where they get the necessary wellness care and are spayed/neutered. Animal Control brings any sick or injured animals to BRHS for immediate care.
In 2013 BRHS was very fortunate to move into its present location across from the Brookings Airport. The building was built specifically to house animals and provides a separate dog kennel area, rooms to house cats, natural lighting, and proper ventilation throughout the whole facility. There are also medical isolation, quarantine, treatment, and surgery rooms.
BRHS has been recognized for and has won multiple awards from both city and national organizations, including several Dog Rescue Awards and a nomination for the Governor’s Award.
