Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Winnie is a sweet, two-year-old yellow Lab mix with a heart full of love and determination. She came to us from North Carolina after a traumatic experience—she was shot near her right hip, causing a thoracic spinal injury. While the bullet could not be fully removed through surgery, Winnie is a fighter, and despite her physical challenges, she remains full of life and joy.
Due to her spinal injury, Winnie will ultimately face paralysis as she ages, and she also has some urinary incontinence. She does have difficulty walking and often paces throughout the day, but this doesn’t stop her from being the best girl. Her spirit is unwavering, and her loving nature shines through despite everything she’s been through.
Winnie is a young dog with a ton of heart, and she has so much life left to live. She is looking for a home where she can receive the care and patience she needs as she adjusts to her disability. It’s important that Winnie goes to a home without other dogs, as she can be a little excitable and will need a calm environment to help her avoid further strain on her injuries. She will also require training to help her manage her pacing and energy levels so she doesn’t overexert herself.
Winnie hasn’t had the fair start in life that she deserves, but she’s ready to give all the love she has to someone who will accept her for who she is. She’s not defined by her limitations; rather, she’s a testament to resilience and hope. Winnie is in need of a family who can embrace her disabilities and love her for her sweet, spunky spirit.
If you’re an experienced dog owner who is looking for a special companion with a heart of gold, Winnie might be the one for you.
