My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)

About Me

Hi my name is Walter.  3yrs old 39lbs from Thailand.

I think I am the best behaved dog here, seriously.  I never bark or cry.
I’m so affectionate towards people both big and small. I would say I’m a REAL happy doggie even though I have some medical issues.
I even got a wheel chair because of many kind people donated towards it so I can finally run and go for walks which I really now enjoy! I’ve met some of the rescue doggies here and we get really well along. I enjoy to play with them, and them with me.

What Makes Me Special

I am not sure if I will ever walk again.  But I am to mastering my wheelchair so I can go out on long walks in the future.  I am always happy and really enjoy all the love, kindness and treats I get from everyone here who comes to see me every day.   I don’t need much to make me happy. I can see a lovely forever in the future that wouldn’t mind taking me out in my wheelchair or have a garden with grass that I can play in.
I would also enjoy a nice doggie friend if that’s possible. Who won’t freak out because of my wheels.
I’m doing allot of social walks a.t.m. with different rescue doggies here and all are going very well.

I was found at a local temple on the mainland.   Many stray dogs in Thailand end up at temples because people dump us there. Lanta Animal Welfare visited the temple and found me.  They decided to bring me back and check me over to see if they could find why I can’t  walk.  Seems I may have some spinal damage.   I hope I can one day stand on all my four paws. Time will tell…

Are you ready for love!
Meet Walter, a three-year old power-pup that’s ready to roll into your heart! Walter might get around on a set of wheels, but that doesn’t slow him down one bit. He’s a calm, gentle soul who loves people and dogs alike—and he’s always ready to make new friends!

Walter was found at a nearby temple and brought back to Lanta Animal Welfare. After running some tests it was determined that Walter had suffered an injury to his spine, and it is unlikely that he will regain the use of his hind legs.

While he’s always smiling and incredibly friendly, Walter does need an experienced family who understands his special needs and can provide him with the support he deserves. If you have experience with special needs dogs and are ready to give a deserving dog the love-filled life he dreams of, please reach out!

Watch Walter using his new wheels.

All dogs are located in NY/NJ area
All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social.

Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!)  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site  https://zanisfurryfriends.org  fill out an application
Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Go meet their pets

Most of our foster animals are in foster homes in or around New York City where they can be seen via appointment w/ the foster family.

We sometimes participate in events sponsored by the Mayor's Alliance of NYC of which we are proud to say we are a participating organization.

Sometimes, unfortunately, our animals are still in the NYC Animal Care and Control facilities for which we desperately seek foster care.

More about this rescue

Because of the pressing cage space dilemma, we take dogs and cats primarily from Animal Care & Control of NYC. If not for rescue and adoptions, more than the present 24,000 of the current 50,000 animals taken in yearly would not make it out alive. Our goal is to take as many animals as we can who make great family members/companions and give them a second chance. Temperament is our most important criteria. Ideally, all our animals are good w/ people of all ages and other animals (dogs/cats).
Our adoptees are either spayed or neutered, all UTD w/ shots/rabies vax, heartworm negative or feline combo negative, and microchipped. Most of our animals live in foster situations to help them reintegrate back into family life. We feel most animals prefer the company of other animals and hope our adopters consider giving pets to their pets. (We do apply the 2 kitty rule.)
Other times, we courtesy post for people who are obliged to surrender their animals but ask that they continue to foster their companions until appropriate new homes are found to limit the trauma.
