My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST 🌟
This Meatball is anything but spicy, but rather a sweet senior gent who just isn't digging city life. This 10-year-old was adopted from us in 2017, and since, he and his owner moved to New York City. But despite their best efforts, Meatball isn't thriving. He's dealing with some arthritis which he's on supplements for, and just got his first injectable treatment, which seems to have helped. Along with that, he's not a big fan of all the excitement or other dogs the moment he steps outside. Meatball's owner loves him very much, but since moving is not an option, we're helping find him a new, quiet home while hopefully avoiding coming all the way back here or sitting in a kennel elsewhere.

Here's what else his owner says: "He is a quiet, funny, well-behaved little old man. Meatball takes time to warm up to people, but once he feels comfortable with you, he loves to sit on your lap for pets and snuggle up for warmth. He loves to play tug and enjoys squeaky toys, but he has yet to figure out how to play fetch."

She even had a DNA test done and Meatball is mostly a Jack Russell-type terrier with some other fun stuff mixed in there. Meatball is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Due to his arthritis pain, we're not recommending a home with little kids or other dogs. We're not sure about cats. We'd also love to find him a place outside the city. It may be a needle in a haystack, but Meatball so deserves a happy, quiet suburban retirement home.

PLEASE READ:
Meatball is NOT with us at the shelter, but is located in the Queens area of NYC. Apply to adopt at www.secondchanceas.org/adopt. We will process applications and contact Meatball's owner to arrange meet and greets. There will be a small rehoming fee.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Fill out an application at the sanctuary or www.secondchanceas.org/adopt (Inquiries on online listings don't constitute an application)

2.

Interview

We will call your veterinarian and personal references. We'll also call you if we have questions or need more information.

3.

Approve Application

We will approve or deny the application. You may be approved to adopt, but not necessarily the same animal you originally applied for.

4.

Meet the Pet

This may be done before applying. You'll be asked to sign an adoption contract and to make a certain donation amount, rather than a set fee.

Additional adoption info

We are passionate about pairing animals in need with loving families who would best suit their individual needs. NOTE: You do not have to apply for a specific animal on your application. You can submit it as a "pre-application" for a certain size, age or breed of animal, and if approved, we can contact you if a possible match arrives at the shelter.
