Lucky is a 2.5 y/o. female Chihuahua who came to us as a transfer from animal control. Upon arrival Lucky presented with cough, limping and was underweight. Nonetheless, she was sweet, engaging and interactive with humans and other dogs. Initial veterinary consultation reveal that her right back leg was fractured, she was heartworm positive and required dental treatment. Lucky was fully vetted, treated for her dental problems and scheduled for heartworm treatment. Per veterinarian's recommendation she was kept in total rest for about a month. After this month, was was reevaluated and the recommendation was made to consider surgery for her leg. Given tha her heartworm condition had not been addressed, this was given priority and she underwent heartworm treatment and is now heartworm free. Once recovered from the heartworm treatment, she was scheduled for surgery, the attending veterinarian determined her situation was of such complexity that even with surgery the use of the leg would be hampered, recommending amputation. Her right back leg was amputated and she is now a tripod. Lucky presents no difficulty ambulating, playing and/or interacting with humans or other dogs with her three legs.
If interested in offering Lucky a forever home, please complete/submit this form: https://form.jotform.com/230252232295145 Just so you know a fenced-in yard and home visit are required. Lucky will only be adopted to households where children are over 9 years old.
