My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marlee is a sweet and affectionate cat who thrives on attention and companionship. At her core, she loves being close to people and enjoys bonding with her humans. However, Marlee can become overstimulated quickly, and when this happens, she may resort to using her claws and mouth to solicit more interaction. Due to her sensitivity, Marlee would do best in an adult-only home with individuals who are experienced in reading feline body language and can manage her unique behaviors with patience and care. With the right environment, Marlee will flourish and provide lots of love to her trusted companions.

***Working Cat Program***

The Maryland SPCA is helping cats who aren't suited for a traditional home environment. The purpose of this program is to offer a safe home and a more comfortable life to cats that wouldn't otherwise thrive in our adoption program.
Barns, warehouses, breweries, and garages are all examples of what a Working Cat would call home. These cats can be under-socialized to humans, have litter box issues unrelated to health, or cats that have come from a previous indoor/outdoor situation that can provide you a valuable service by keeping rodents away; the all-natural way!

Adopters must agree to provide:

A warm, safe shelter to keep the cat protected from the elements
Food and clean water every day
Future medical care
A way to keep the cat contained for 2-3 weeks for the acclimation period
Working Cats participating in the program are ear tipped, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before going to a new home and adoption fees are waived. The adoption guidelines are a little bit different for Working Cats, but we are committed to finding your friend for life!

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
