Payton is a 4 yr old Cairn Terrier mix, around 13 lbs. She is a gentle dog but not a lap dog, who craves love, snuggles, and a human she can trust. She is very timid when meeting new people and is moderate energy. She enjoys playing with small dogs like herself after proper introduction and she loves chewing shoes as well as her toys! In a very short time Payton built a trusting bond with her foster mom and follows her happily around. She loves to run around the yard several times a day and everything in the house is a toy for her! Payton is not low energy but she doesn't need a daily walk if she gets adequate outdoor playtime and a hands on owner. She became besties with Gina, her foster sibling also on the website and she would benefit from having a small housemate if they are playful but mellow. Payton just needs a patient human who will give her the time she needs and she doesn't do well with strangers. She is crate trained and house trained and she is a bundle of hugs. A mellow home is what she's looking for with a yard to explore. Payton does not tolerate medium to large dogs so no dog parks for this little girl. Come visit her in Aurora, CO through #BigBonesCanineRescue

Over 75% of our dogs are in foster homes along the front range. The foster will get in touch to schedule meetings for their foster dog. Meetings will happen in/near their homes since that is where the dog is the most comfortable. We do want you to bring family members (human and dog) to the meeting! Dogs who are currently at our Windsor facility will have meetings there and a volunteer will reach out to schedule those meetings with you. Please be aware that we do not place our dogs on a first come, first served basis, but rather a best-fit placement. Never fear, applications are valid for a year so if the first dog you meet isn't a good fit, we will have plenty of time to find one that is.
