My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

AKINA hails from the Northern community of Sandy Lake and she came south to find her forever family. She’s spayed, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. When she came to us her fur was extremely matted to the point we had her body shaved. Right now she looks a bit like a lion as she has a shaved body but a fluffy mane, face, legs and tail. Even being shaved like that she still looks super cute. She’s a super friendly girl who loves her humans and to get lots of loving. She’ll sit in your lap and purr like crazy while she gets lots of snuggles.
AKINA’s litter box trained and she has been since first going to her foster home. She loves being adventurous and exploring all the nooks and crannies she can find. She enjoys playing with all sorts of toys but chasing a ball is one of her favourite past times. She also enjoys sitting in the cat tree and looking out the window at all the wildlife outside.
AKINA will need regular grooming including combing of her fur so she’s looking for an owner who will be dedicated to doing this to keep her knot free. She’s fostered with another cat and a kitten and at first there was a lot of hissing going on but it didn’t take long before they became friends and she was even caught sharing her dish of food with the kitten. She would suit a home with another cat who has been around other cats but she would also do well as an only cat as long as she isn’t left alone for long periods of time. She has dogs and puppies in her foster home and she does well with them but at first once again. there was a lot of hissing going on but it wasn’t long before she decided they weren’t so bad after all. She should only go to a home with a dog if it’s cat savvy one and a slow, monitored introduction is done. Children should be age 6 and up plus be loving, caring and gentle towards animals.
If AKINA sounds like she would suit you and your family then please submit an adoption application.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
