Myra (who goes by Maya in her foster home) is a very sweet, very young adult- probably close to one year old. Her origins are unknown, but she must have experienced some negative associations with other dogs, so she does tend to lip curl or show teeth to new dogs she meets to establish her "bubble". However, once she has a few minutes with them, they get along well and she is actually quite submissive. She has been in two foster homes- one with several dogs and cats, and another with four large dogs, and got along well with all. She can be a bit shy with new people, but warms up fast and then bonds hard. She really enjoys cuddling both with people and her dog friends.
Maya is full of puppy exuberance. We think she was a gazelle in a previous life; she has a vertical hop that will impress! She should have a 6' fence in her new home just to be safe. She likes toys and is pretty good at fetching. She'd really like to catch a squirrel... She's very curious, happy, and athletic. She comes when called, but also loves to explore her surroundings. She learned the doggie door in less than 24 hours and takes herself outside and back in as she pleases. She's housetrained with a doggie door! She also walks nicely on a leash and sticks close to her person.
Myra weighs about 40 lbs. She is tall and lean, and would be a great adventure companion. She would be a good running or hiking buddy, and likely would do well with agility or similar activities. She's also a quiet dog, not a big barker. She loves to hang out with her person while working from home, and just likes to tuck herself under the desk and snooze; she'd be a good work buddy. She would also be a good Canine Good Citizen candidate with her gentle nature and some more confidence building.
Maya can be startled by fast movements so a home with a bit older kids (12 and up) would be the best match for her. She would do best with other playful non-aggressive dogs, particularly males. She's quite smitten with her current foster home's two boy dogs, even snuggling with one on the first night she came into the home!
Maya's being fostered in the Colorado Springs area. Please submit an adoption application today to discuss and meet and greet!
