My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Norma Rae is a 2-year-old Goldendoodle who is thrilled to be living her best life after spending her early years with a breeder.  She came to rescue a bit of a matted mess, but it didn’t break her spirit.  She learned quickly that humans were on her side, and she absolutely thrives on just a little love and attention.

She has had professional grooming and excellent veterinary care and is now learning the ropes of indoor family life.  Norma gets along very well with everyone – kids, adults, all the other dogs, cats, and chickens.  This girl is all love!

She has been learning quickly from her foster family, and especially from the dogs in her foster home.  Norma is doing well on house training.  She has never soiled her crate and has only had a couple of accidents in the house.  She’s still learning how to give more noticeable cues when she needs to go outside.  The few accidents she has had were when we didn’t quite understand what she was trying to tell us – with careful attention and consistent practice she should have this down in no time.

Norma does well on a leash, and we continue to practice this with daily walks.  She has been on a tie-out at her foster home and has done well.  She would love a fenced yard or her own but would be fine without one as long as she could take a walk or two each day.

Like most breeder releases, Norma is mildly cautious when first meeting people.  Even after she is comfortable with humans, she is still a little afraid at times – especially if she senses she might be in trouble (like after she has an accident in the house), and she will keep her distance until she knows she is safe.  Lots of loving reassurance helps with this.

While she would love to curl up on a sofa or bed, she also likes to sleep in a kennel and will “kennel up” on command.  She’s quiet all night and won’t make a sound until the rest of the household is awake.   She doesn’t bark a lot, primarily when other dogs in the home are doing so.

Norma is still learning new things daily but she is an eager student especially when treats are involved.  Her favorite treat is little bits of chopped hot dog.  Her favorite toy is anything that squeaks.  She is in her absolute glory, running around with a toy in her mouth, demonstrating how it works to everyone who will listen.

This girl is a total sweetheart who will bring years of joy and companionship to a family.  She would do well with all ages and could be fine in a smaller home or apartment.  She is young enough to adjust to nearly any type of living situation, yet well past the puppy stage.  If that sounds like what you are looking for, you’ve got to meet Norma Rae!
