My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ATDR 3591

Say hello to Lizzie! This stunning girl came to ATDR from a breeder who was sizing down the number of dogs they had. She is now sharing life in a comfortable foster home where it’s reported that in the beginning she was a little apprehensive and stand offish initially, but that was understandable. She warmed up very quickly and really enjoys being near her people now.

Lizzie has VERRRRY big energy and loves to play. If let outside with the dogs near her age, she would play 24/7 and this is no exaggeration! She can play hard, but thus can be corrected with verbal and/or auditory correction.  She generally ignores the senior dogs in the house.  She also loves playing with toys so chew toys and Nyla bones are a must and work to alleviate chewing on furniture or other things not as desirable to her person or people. Crating her when not at home to supervise will alleviate unwanted accidents in this regard. She’s pretty good on a leash already and will get better in time. She’s potty trained and will go to the patio door when she wants to go out. She’s very inquisitive and smart.  She is a gorgeous standard girl with more than a passing resemblance to Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund. She has the head tilt to melt your heart down to a science...

Lizzy is an alpha dog and will need to be adopted by experienced dachshund owners who will always make sure she knows that they’re the undisputed alpha(s) in the relationship; otherwise, Lizzy will take charge and run all over them, figuratively and literally! Younger canine sibling(s) similar to her age in the home is pretty much a must! A forever home with a safely fenced yard where she can spend energy is also a must! If you meet these criteria and are looking for a beautiful girl to share the good things in life with, please submit an adoption application for beautiful Lizzie. With patience and kind guidance, she will become a loving best friend and companion.

More about this rescue

All Texas Dachshund Rescue, Inc., is made up of a group of volunteers whose primary goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home disabled and otherwise endangered Dachshunds who have found themselves homeless for one reason or another. It is our policy that no dogs will be adopted out without first being spayed or neutered, have had all vaccines updated, are heartworm negative, are on heartworm preventative, and have had all other health issues we consider important to the pet’s life addressed that we are able.

All incoming Dachshunds will be placed in temporary foster homes, where they will be evaluated while living indoors with the foster families in a safe and nurturing home environment, until such time as they are ready to be placed in a loving, adoptive, forever home.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
